The point is valid that often what the church focuses on is pointless.
However, this does not take into account that people need socialization at church or it can be an overwhelmingly lonely place.
This analysis also does not take into account that if you delve too deeply into these highly technical and esoteric matters, you are going to end up chasing away sincere believers that don't have the vocation of scholarship.
