While an improvement over the past, it seems Google's recognition of a patriotic commemoration is still only half hearted. The flag & yellow ribbon for Memorial Day are placed towards the bottom of the screen whereas for less auspicious celebrations such as the discovery of a fossil allegedly supposing to be a "missing link" or the anniversary of Pac Man, the company is willing to mutilate its logo entirely.
